PagerDuty Design System

PagerDuty2018Principal UX Designer

Overview

As PagerDuty grew, maintaining consistency across the platform became increasingly difficult. I led the creation of a comprehensive design system that would enable product teams to deliver consistent experiences.

The Problem

Multiple product teams were building features independently, leading to inconsistent user experiences. There was no shared language between design and engineering, making handoffs slow and error-prone. Customer support was struggling to help users navigate an inconsistent interface.

The Solution

I collaborated with engineering, product, customer support, and marketing to produce a design framework that all product teams could use. This included component libraries, design tokens, documentation, and governance processes. The system was built to be flexible enough to handle PagerDuty's complex enterprise requirements while maintaining consistency.

Results

  • Established a shared design language across all product teams
  • Reduced design-to-engineering handoff time significantly
  • Enabled faster feature development with pre-built, tested components
  • Improved user experience consistency across the platform
